We’ve all heard the terms ‘Cocktail’, Formal’, ‘Smart Casual’, and ‘Black Tie’, but what do all these terms actually mean? How do you know what to wear for which occasion? Read up on these, most common, dress codes to help you understand what to wear, where.

Cocktail: Cocktail Attire generally means to a wear a dress that sits above the knee. Remember to not wear anything that is too revealing. Cocktail attire keeps hemlines, and necklines appropriate.

When attending a Christening, it is important to remember not to wear a dress that is too short or otherwise revealing. The ceremony is often held in a Church or other religious venue, so think “smart” rather than “sexy” when choosing your attire.

The most common body shape for women is the pear shape. This means that the widest part of your body is below your waist.

Body shape is all about proportion. When determining the best style for your body type it is important that you dress those proportions to look their very best. Once you’ve determined your body shape, you can then consider which dresses will enhance your shape and those dresses to avoid.

Consider wearing fitted styles around your waist to draw attention to your waistline. Dark colours, fitted lines and bold patterns will achieve this the best.

Ruffled sleeve lines will make your shoulders look broader and even out your proportions. Slightly plunging or V-neck styles also flatter the pear shaped figure and draw attention upward, away from the hips and thighs.
